Microsoft 365 approval

If you opened Formula Foundry in Excel and the sign-in screen says “Your Microsoft 365 admin hasn’t approved Formula Foundry yet”, this page is for you — and for the administrator who can approve it. It takes an admin about two minutes.

What happened?

Many organizations configure Microsoft 365 so that users can’t grant apps access to their work account on their own. When that’s the case, Excel can’t sign you in silently with your Microsoft account, and Formula Foundry shows the notice instead of failing quietly.

You are not locked out. Click Sign in with Google on the same screen to use Formula Foundry right away with a Google account. Approval only matters if you want the automatic sign-in with your work account.

What Formula Foundry asks for

The Excel add-in requests the minimum a Microsoft 365 app can ask for:

Permission	What it’s used for
Sign you in and read your name	Silent sign-in with the account you’re already using in Excel.
Read your email address	Links your Formula Foundry account to the right person.

It never reads your files, mail, calendar, or anything else in your tenant. Your spreadsheet is accessed through Excel itself, not through Microsoft 365 permissions.

For administrators: how do I approve Formula Foundry?

You need the Global Administrator, Privileged Role Administrator, or Cloud Application Administrator role.

Open the Microsoft Entra admin center and go to Identity → Applications → Enterprise applications.
Search for Formula Foundry, or filter by the application (client) ID:

If the app isn’t listed yet, no user in your tenant has tried it before. Ask the user to click Sign in with Microsoft once; the app then appears in the list.
Open the app, then Security → Permissions.
Click Grant admin consent for your organization and confirm.

The change applies immediately.

If you’d rather not approve apps one by one, go to Identity → Applications → Enterprise applications → Consent and permissions → User consent settings and choose Allow user consent for apps from verified publishers, for selected permissions. Formula Foundry only asks for the basic sign-in permissions, which fall under that setting.

For users: after your admin approved it

Close the Formula Foundry pane and open it again from the Excel ribbon.
The notice should be gone and you’ll be signed in automatically.
If you’re still on the sign-in screen, click Sign in with Microsoft once; Excel then remembers the session.

I’m not the admin — what do I send them?

The notice has a Copy message for your admin button. It puts a short, ready-to-send note on your clipboard that names the app, includes the application ID above, and links to this page. Paste it into an email or chat to your IT team.

If the notice stays after the admin change, contact support and mention your organization’s Microsoft 365 domain.
